Moving In

The big day is coming, and will get here before you know it. Make sure you plan ahead to ensure that your moving day is well organized.

Things to consider:

Have you booked a truck or movers in advance?

This is one of the most often overlooked situation new tenants find themselves in - they waited too long to book a truck and now cannot get one for the date and time of their choice. Remember to book your truck early, don't be disappointed and delayed.

What do I need to do before I can get my keys?

Contact the landlord to ensure you have completed all the required steps so there will not be a delay when you pick up your keys. Some things often required are: signing of the lease by all parties involved, payment of any and all rent due, or proof of hydro hook up if applicable.

When can I get the keys?

Make sure you have contacted the landlord a week in advance of your scheduled move day and know what time you can pick up the keys. Reconfirm this date and time 2 business days prior to taking possession of your new home.

Don't assume that you can drop in anytime on your move in day to pick up your keys. If you come before the unit is ready you may be delayed, or if you arrive after office hours you may have to wait until the next day.

Now I have keys; When can I move in?

Some buildings have rules for your move in, such as not before 9 a.m., or after 9 p.m. Make sure you have booked your move in time a minimum of 2 business days before your scheduled move. Also remember to book an elevator if required.

I'm in; now what?

Congratulations! Welcome to your new home. You can expect to receive a survey in the near future asking some general questions about your experience thus far with our company.

Installing Phone, Cable, etc.

When arranging to have phone, cable, etc. installed, please ensure you book your appointment during regular office hours. Staff are not available on the weekends or after regular hours to assist if the installer needs access to an ‘Authorized Only’ access or room.

It is recommended that you inform the office when the installation is scheduled in advance to ensure someone will be available.

Please be aware that the installation of a Satellite Dish is not permitted.

With any home it is important that everyone keep the place looking good. It is especially important to put garbage in the right place. Please ensure you break down all your moving boxes before placing them in the garbage bin or recycle bin. Also be aware that at no time is garbage of any description permitted to be left in the hallways or common areas.

The condition of your new home is important, you will be required to fill out a form on the condition of the unit upon your occupancy. This form lets the landlord know if there are any items that may need repair. Your landlord will have specific forms to be filled out in order to have maintenance done in your unit.

See your landlord for any other information or concerns.
